Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 8, 2026

This privacy policy describes how the New Tab Chrome extension handles user data. The short version: everything runs locally in your browser, and we do not collect, store on any server, sell, or share any of your data.

No Data Collection

The extension has no backend, no accounts, no analytics, and no tracking. It does not transmit your personal data, browsing history, bookmarks, or usage information to the developer or to any third party.

Permissions and How They Are Used

The extension requests the following Chrome permissions. Each is used only to display your own data on your own new-tab page, on demand:

PermissionPurpose
topSitesFills the shortcut dock with your most-visited sites on first run, matching Chrome's default new-tab page. Read-only.
bookmarksLets you search your own bookmarks in the "Add shortcut" panel to pin a site to the dock. Read-only; bookmarks are never modified.
historyLets you search your own browsing history in the "Add shortcut" panel to pin a previously visited site. Read-only; history is never modified.
faviconDisplays site icons for your shortcuts using Chrome's built-in favicon service.
storageSaves your settings locally in your browser: your shortcut dock, an optional target date, your theme choice, and a running focus-timer session.

Data read through these permissions is rendered on the new-tab page and goes nowhere else.

Network Requests

The extension makes no network requests, with one narrow exception: if Chrome's built-in favicon service cannot provide an icon for a shortcut, the extension may fetch that icon from Google's public favicon service (google.com/s2/favicons). This request contains only the domain name of the shortcut (for example, github.com) and no other information. No other external service is contacted.

Data Retention and Deletion

All settings live in your browser's local extension storage. Removing a shortcut or target date deletes it immediately, and uninstalling the extension removes all stored data. Nothing exists outside your browser to delete.

Changes to This Policy

If a future version of the extension changes how data is handled, this policy will be updated before that version is published.
